03Manifesto

Not above nature.
Within it.

Twelve residences sit inside a single mountain flank, each one following an existing fold of rock rather than cutting a new one.

Roofs hold the angle of the slope. Walls rise from stone already standing. Nothing is levelled that does not need to be.

The result is a settlement that reads as geology first, and architecture second.

04Principles

Principles

01

Stone

Every foundation sits on rock exposed during excavation, left visible where it meets the floor. The residence does not hide what it stands on.

02

Light

Openings are cut where the sun already falls in winter. Interiors change with the hour instead of competing with it with constant brightness.

03

Silence

Walls are thick enough to hold the mountain's quiet. No mechanical system runs where it can be heard.

05Residences

Three positions on one slope.

Each residence type answers to a different part of the terrain.

06Material index

Five materials, left honest.

Nothing here is finished to hide its own age.

Locally sourced limestone 01

Quarried within 40 kilometres, cut to expose its natural bedding line.

Charred timber 02

Cladding finished with a traditional charring method, weather-resistant without applied coating.

Aged bronze 03

Fixtures left unlacquered, so oxidation continues after installation.

Untreated wool 04

Interior textiles woven undyed, keeping the natural colour range of the fleece.

Textured mineral plaster 05

Applied by hand in a single layer, left with the trace of the tool.

Architect's note

We did not begin with a building.
We began with the line of the mountain.
